October 28, 2026 Public Safety Subcommittee Special Meeting Agenda

2026-10-28 October 2026 Meeting date passed; final actions and approved minutes not independently verified
At a glance

The Culver City Standing City Council Public Safety Subcommittee's October 28 special-meeting agenda lists discussion and potential direction on a Reimagining Public Safety General Plan element, the Police Department's 2025–2026 military-equipment annual report, and the subcommittee's prospective work plan. The General Plan topic follows the City Council's 2023 decision not to include that element. Agenda listings are not evidence that police staffing, budgets, patrol, enforcement, or emergency-response assignments have changed.

Context note

Historical comparison: In November 2016, Measure CA was defeated (10,898 no votes, 64.65%, versus 5,958 yes votes, 35.35%). Its proposed charter change would have shifted appointment and reporting responsibilities of police and fire chiefs from Council to City Manager; it was not a staffing ballot measure. The 2020 Public Safety Review examined law-enforcement workload, resource allocation, and alternatives. The City subsequently eliminated eight authorized sworn police positions in its FY 2021–2022 budget and allocated $1.5 million to develop mobile crisis intervention. On November 13, 2023, Council voted 3–2 not to include the optional Reimagining Public Safety Element in General Plan 2045. On April 27, 2026, Council dissolved the prior Police Subcommittee and created a broader Public Safety Subcommittee. The October 28, 2026 special-meeting listing establishes scheduled discussion, not whether any of those past decisions are being reversed. The full attachments and any meeting decisions have not been independently verified at the initial October 27, 2026 review. October 29 follow-up: the CCPD Transparency Reports page now lists the 2025–2026 AB 481 Military Equipment Annual Report (525 KB), which relates to A-2. The full report could not be retrieved for substantive review, so no new purchases, costs, equipment uses, policy violations, staffing decisions, or meeting recommendations can be asserted from this listing. The date the PDF first appeared is not established.
