CCHS science AP and honors recommendation form and readiness criteria
A January 2020 email from Science Department Chair Mariah Fontijn distributes a course-recommendation form intended to encourage appropriate participation in AP and honors science classes while identifying skills students may need to strengthen.

Fontijn says the Science Department would complete the form for current ninth-, tenth- and eleventh-grade students to encourage participation in AP and honors classes for students who were ready and for those the department hoped could become ready.
The form lets teachers recommend Honors Chemistry, Physics or Biology; AP Biology, Chemistry, Environmental Science or Physics; or another course. It also identifies readiness areas including algebra, problem solving, test taking, reading comprehension, class engagement, work habits, independent study and time management.
Students were to take the form home for parent or guardian signature and bring it to course-selection meetings with counselors. Fontijn says the form was adapted from one used by Social Studies, which she says had reduced course drops by improving placement.
