Ray Long and Steve Levin emails on UC honors approval and public messaging
A November 2022 exchange between CCFT President Ray Long and Board member Steve Levin records disagreement and uncertainty over CCHS honors-course UC approval, the district's public message to families, possible bargaining obligations, and competing explanations for why longstanding honors courses were not UC-approved.

Long writes that UC does not award the additional honors grade point for ninth-grade honors courses and says UC honors approval involves prerequisites that may conflict with CCHS open enrollment. He also argues that asking bargaining-unit members to revise coursework for UC approval could require collective bargaining and tells Board members that CCFT had instructed members not to perform extra work until the issue was bargained.
Levin replies that the Board had not seen a draft of the statement before it was sent and lists several different explanations he had heard for the lack of UC approval: course requirements, missing paperwork, or an earlier deliberate choice not to seek approval. He says he had not personally verified several of those explanations and wanted administrators to explain the history publicly.
Levin says the core problem for him was the lack of a clear explanation rather than a demand to restore tracking. Long responds that a meeting among high-school administration, district administration and part of the Board could help address the concerns.
