Summer McBride confirms Board did not approve CCHS honors message before release

At a glance

A November 2022 exchange between CCFT President Ray Long and Board member Summer McBride documents that a CCHS message announcing review and submission of honors courses for UC approval had not been brought to the Board for approval before being sent to families.

Source contents

The underlying CCHS message says the school would review current honors classes and submit them for University of California honors approval, naming Geometry, Algebra, Precalculus, Chemistry, Biology and Physics and explaining the possible UC GPA weighting.

Long objects that the message potentially committed CCFT-represented employees to additional work before bargaining and calls the communication inconsistent with prior discussions about detracking. Those are Long's labor and policy characterizations in the email, not independent CCR legal findings.

McBride replies that the message had never been brought to the Board for approval before release and says she wanted to discuss that issue and related concerns with Long.
