Summer McBride correspondence on Brookwood, facilities and district priorities
A September-October 2022 packet preserves emails to and from Board member Summer McBride during the Brookwood debate, including competing views about workforce housing, facilities repairs, consultant spending, staff retention and alternative revenue sources.

McBride tells teacher Julie Groya that she supports affordable-housing development generally but opposes the Brookwood contract because she views it as costly, untimely and distracting from urgent district needs. She points to unresolved facilities repairs and says the district had already spent about $400,000 on a 2019-20 facilities master-planning process that included energy and housing work.
Groya responds that teacher housing remains important because employees struggle to live near Culver City, while also agreeing that the Brookwood price is high and asking whether a less expensive organization could perform similar work. Another correspondent, Joe Kanal, argues for stronger educational-foundation fundraising rather than leasing or selling school property.
The packet therefore captures several distinct viewpoints around the same policy question: housing affordability, employee retention, facilities maintenance, educational-foundation fundraising and the appropriate use of district property and consultant funds.
